Mortensen nets West Division Player of the Week award

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— Adams State College junior Marcus Mortensen (Cortez, Colo.) made the most of a career weekend. Averaging 18.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game, Mortensen led the Grizzlies to a key sweep of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference West Division co-leaders Mesa State and Fort Lewis, earning himself RMAC West Division Player of the Week honors in the process. The distinction is the first of his career.

Mortensen scored a career-high 21 points while grabbing a career-best nine rebounds in Thursday night’s 91-78 win over Mesa State. He was 6 of 8 from the field, including 2 of 2 from beyond the arc and 7 of 8 from the line in that game. He then came back to score 16 points and grab four rebounds against Fort Lewis. He made all eight of his free throw attempts in that victory to help seal the win.

For the week, Mortensen shot the ball at a 60.0 percent clip, including a stellar 66.7 percent effort from 3-point range, and 93.8 percent from the line.

Mortensen joins teammate Roman Moniak (Sacramento, Calif.) as the only two Grizzlies to be named as the West Division Player of the Week this season. Moniak earned the award on Jan. 29.
