KSPK to air seven Grizzly volleyball matches

WALSENBURG, Colo.— Seven Adams State College volleyball matches, including three road contests, can be heard live on KSPK-FM according to the schedule recently announced by station general manager Paul Richards.
Sports Director Mike St. Clair will have the play-by-play action for all of the matches starting Thursday, Sept. 4 at 7 p.m. when the Grizzlies travel to face the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs. Grizzly associate athletic director and sports information director Chris Day will provide color commentary for that match and some of the others.
Although that is the only match that will be broadcast in September, the action will really heat up in the month of October as KSPK will carry five matches including Oct. 9 and 10 road matches at Metro State and Colorado Christian.
The regular season broadcast schedule then concludes Nov. 7 when the Grizzlies host arch-rival Western State. The coverage for all of the matches will begin with a pre-match show at 6:45 p.m. each broadcast.
KSPK-FM, which can be heard at 103.5 and 104.1 in Alamosa, is entering its 11th year as the official corporate broadcasting partner of the Grizzlies and can also be heard on the internet at www.kspk.com. The station is Southern Colorado’s largest and most popular and can also be heard at 102.3 FM in Walsenburg, Pueblo and Colorado Springs and at 103.5 in Trinidad, Del Norte and South Fork.
“I commend Paul (Richards) and Mike (St. Clair) for their dedication to all of Grizzly athletics and especially for this expanded volleyball coverage. 2008 should be an exciting year for the Grizzly squad and I’m happy that fans and parents will be able to hear the Grizzlies from around the nation and the world,” Day said.
“Although we certainly encourage Grizzly volleyball fans in the San Luis Valley to attend the home matches in person, it is especially commendable for KSPK to have three away broadcasts on the air, which makes in possible for fans to stay in touch with the team while on the road,” Day added.
The station also has regular coverage of the Grizzly football, basketball and softball teams and carries Grizzly Talk, a weekly hour-long coaches’ talk show on Wednesday nights.
The station has never carried as many regular season volleyball matches in a single-season but did broadcast five regular-season contests and both of ASC’s RMAC Tournament matches a year ago.
The Grizzlies went 5-2 in those matches and 15-14 overall while picking up the program’s first post-season win since 2003 in the quarterfinal round of the RMAC Tournament in Kearney, Neb. over Fort Lewis.
Expectations for the 2008 season are also high as fourth-year head coach Lindy Mortensen returns five starters including all-region selections Darcy Jennings (Lakin, Kan.) and Andrea Tuck (Erie, Colo.).
