Jennings receives fourth RMAC honor of the season

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— Adams State College junior middle hitter Darcy Jennings (Lakin, Kan.) received her fourth Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Player of the Week honor this season and the fifth of her career as she was tabbed as the RMAC/Baden Defensive Player of the Week, conference officials announced late Monday.
Jennings, who leads the RMAC with 105 blocks, a 1.01 per set average, put down nine blocks, including two solos, as she set ASC’s NCAA Division II era (1992-Present) career school record for rejections. Now with 349 in her 3-year career as a Grizzly, Jennings broke Kerri Abbott’s era mark of 345. Abbott, an ASC Hall of Famer and program’s only All-American, had two years as a Division II player after a 2-year stint at the NAIA level. She recorded 653 total blocks in her career, ASC’s all-time record.
Jennings, who also had 17 digs in two matches over the weekend, also played well offensively recording 22 combined kills and a .283 hitting percentage as the Grizzlies knocked off arch-rival Western State to clinch a RMAC Tournament spot and a second straight winning season in five sets on Friday before falling to Fort Lewis in four sets on Saturday night. Jennings had 13 kills and 13 digs in the win over the Mountaineers, good for her first double-double of the season.
This is her third RMAC Defensive honor of the year after earning the same accolades on Oct. 27 and Sept. 22. Jennings was also named as the RMAC’s Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 8.
The Grizzlies, who finished the regular season with 14-12 overall and 11-8 RMAC marks, are the eighth seed in this weekend’s RMAC Tournament in Kearney, Neb. They will face the conference’s regular season champion Nebraska-Kearney Lopers (31-2, 18-1 RMAC), ranked fifth in this week’s Bison/American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 25 Coaches Poll in the quarterfinal round.
The match will begin at 7:30 p.m. CST and can be heard live on KSPK-FM (104.1 in Alamosa) and via the internet at www.kspk.com.
