KSPK to air five volleyball matches
New Coach Lindy Mortensen holds first practice

ALAMOSA, Colo.— Fans that can not make the matches will have the chance to listen to Adams State College volleyball team, guided by new head coach Lindy Mortensen, on at least five occasions. KSPK-FM, ASC’s corporate broadcast partner, will have live broadcasts of five regular season matches throughout the regular season, Sports Director Larry Patrick recently announced.
The matches can be heard at 103.5 on the FM dial in Alamosa and Trinidad and at 102.3 in Walsenburg and Pueblo. The matches can also be heard on KSPK’s web site www.kspk.com by clicking on the listen live icon.
The first match that KSPK will carry is ASC’s Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opener at New Mexico Highlands University on Tuesday, Sept. 6. The station will also carry a Sept. 29 match at Metro State College and home matches against Fort Hays State University, Chadron State College and NMHU on Oct. 8, 15 and 25, respectively. The FHSU Tigers advanced to the Southwest Regional finals in 2004 while MSC was a regional tournament qualifier.
All of the regular season matches will begin at 7 p.m. with the broadcasts slated to start at 6:45 p.m. KSPK also has tentative plans to cover the RMAC Tournament slated for Nov. 11-13, should the Grizzlies qualify.
KSPK will also have live broadcasts of all 11 ASC football games this fall, starting with the Aug. 25 season-opener at Central Missouri State University.
In other news, Mortensen’s volleyball team held their first practice on Monday. After team meetings for NCAA required paperwork in the morning, Mortensen held a 2 1/2-hour practice on Monday afternoon and an evening weightlifting session.
Mortensen has 16 players on the roster, 12 of which are returning from the 2004 squad. “It looks like a good group,” Mortensen said about the first day. “They seem willing to work hard and I’m excited about getting in the gym with them.”
Mortensen is planning morning and afternoon practices in addition to an evening weightlifting session through Saturday and has set a similar schedule for next week. The Grizzlies will also hold an intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 20 at 2 p.m. in Plachy Hall.
Mortensen and the Grizzlies will officially kick off the 2005 season on Friday, Aug. 26 at the West Texas A&M Lady Buff Classic in Canyon, Texas.
