Garcia tabbed RMAC Player of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— While traveling to her home state for the final time in her collegiate career, Adams State College senior libero Jocelyn Garcia was named as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference’s West Division Player of the Week. The announcement was made by conference officials Tuesday afternoon as the Grizzly volleyball squad was traveling to Las Vegas, N.M. for its RMAC opener against New Mexico Highlands University Tuesday night.
The 5-foot-5 Albuquerque native and 2002 Albuquerque High School graduate had also been named to the all-tournament team at the AmeriSuites/Mountain Lion Invitational hosted by the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs on Friday and Saturday. Averaging 4.67 digs per game (56 total) while helping the Grizzlies to a 2-1 record over the weekend, Garcia recorded a career-high 28 digs in ASC’s win over St. Mary’s (Texas) University on Friday. She also recorded a match and season-high four service aces in that 4-game win.
In Friday’s nightcap against Cameron (Okla.) University, Garcia recorded 18 digs before keeping 10 Angelo State (Texas) University attacks off the floor in ASC’s 5-game win over the Rambelles on Saturday. In the three matches, Garcia committed just one reception error.
On the young season, Garcia has recorded a team-high 118 digs, good for a 4.72 per game average, the sixth best mark in the RMAC. She has been in double figures for digs in all seven of ASC’s matches and has helped lead first-year coach Lindy Mortensen’s squad to a 3-4 record in the non-conference portion of the schedule.
This weekly honor is the first such of Garcia’s career.
