Grizzlies to begin spring season at Saturday's UNC Tournament
Home tournament, Sand Doubles championship also on tap

GREELEY, Colo.— The Adams State College volleyball team will begin its spring exhibition season this Saturday competing in a 16-team tournament hosted by the University of Northern Colorado here in the Bears’ Butler Hancock Sports Pavilion.
The Grizzlies will also host a 5-team tournament in Plachy Hall on Apr. 17 and will then conclude the spring season on Apr. 24 by competing in the first-ever Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Sand Doubles Championship at The Oasis, an indoor facility, in Broomfield, Colo.
On Saturday, the Grizzlies will play four to five matches throughout the day beginning the tournament in pool play action against Western Nebraska Community College at 9 a.m. They will also play RMAC rival Chadron State at 11 a.m. and Division I Wyoming at 2 p.m. before advancing to bracket play against other pools later in the afternoon.
In their home tournament, the Grizzlies will face RMAC rivals Fort Lewis and Western State along with Lamar Community College and Trinidad State Junior College in round-robin action that will begin at 9:30 a.m.
The Apr. 24 sand tournament will be contested by several different RMAC schools, who will send multiple 2-player teams competing as individual teams that will also be fighting to earn points which will determine the overall team champion.
The sport of sand volleyball, growing in popularity after inclusion in recent Olympic Games, was approved as an emerging sport at the NCAA Division II level at the 2009 NCAA Convention and can be used by member institutions towards sport sponsorship effective August of this year.
