Ullery to lead Grizzlies' JV Volleyball program

ALAMOSA, Colo.— Veteran San Luis Valley volleyball coach Amber Ullery has been named as Adams State College’s junior varsity volleyball coach.
In nine years as a varsity coach at three different SLV high schools, Ullery posted a combined 160-63 record while winning five combined Southern Peaks League Championships.
After graduating from Adams State with a bachelor’s degree in K-12 physical education in the summer of 2000, Ullery began her coaching career that fall leading the Sierra Grande Panthers to a SPL title and a regional appearance. She then moved to Sangre de Cristo High School for the next six years leading the T-Birds to four straight league and district titles from 2003-06, a run highlighted by the squad’s trip to the state semifinals in 2006, her last year with the program.
Ullery, who also taught physical education at both of the aforementioned schools, then moved up to the 4A level and served as the junior varsity coach for Alamosa High School in 2007 before returning to head coaching duties at Monte Vista High School for the 2008 and 2009 seasons.
During her career, Ullery has coached eight CCGS (Colorado Coaches of Girls Sport) all-state selections and nine players selected to play in the CHSAA All-State game. She has also guided five SPL Player of the Year.
In addition to her high school level success, Ullery also started Sand Dunes Volleyball Club in 2006 and currently serves as the club director and head coach for the program that annually serves 30-40 girls between the ages of 12 and 18.
A native of Cortez, Colo., she graduated from Montezuma-Cortez High School in 1994 and was an all-conference selection for the Panther squad that placed third at the state tournament during her senior year.
Ullery and her husband Brian, a history teacher and wrestling coach at Center High School, are the parents of three children— daughter Kambree, 6, son Kiler, 4, and 3-month old daughter Aubree.
Ullery is also starting work on a master’s degree at Adams State.
Volleyball is one of four junior varsity programs Adams State is adding this year.
