Adams State dropped a pair of one-goal decisions over its first weekend of RMAC action ever

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Click here to view the fourth Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference men’s soccer release of the 2010 season. Tuesday’s release includes league Players of the Week, RMAC standings, a list of upcoming matches, news and notes from around the league as well as a look at national, regional and conference polls.

After one weekend of RMAC play, Colorado Mines and Metro State, the No. 3 and No. 11 teams in the National Soccer Coaches’ Association of America (NSCAA) poll, lead the league with six points in conference. Regis, ranked 18th in the national poll which was also released Tuesday, along with Fort Lewis, CsU-Pueblo and Colorado Christian are each tied for third with three RMAC points. Mesa State, UC-Colorado Springs and Adams State were all winless over the weekend.

The Grizzlies saw CSU-Pueblo and Colorado Christian on their first weekend of action on league play, where they continued to show a great amount of improvement in all facets of the game. Freshman goalkeepers Paul Pizza (Alamosa, Colo.) and Dillon Lee (Arvada, Colo.) each had a 10-save game over the weekend, and on Sunday Adams State fired off 28 shots in double-overtime loss to the Cougars, a new single-game program high. Senior David Powers (Fairbanks, Alaska) tallied an assist on goal by freshman Chris Roggow (Evergreen, Colo.), who scored his second goal of the week. Powers also put three shots on goal in the contest, a new school record.

In addition to having three teams ranked in the national top 25, the RMAC continues to dominate the NSCAA Men’s Soccer Central Regional Rankings. All six teams on the list hail from the RMAC. Colorado Mines tops the list, followed by Metro State, Regis, Fort Lewis, Mesa State and CSU-Pueblo.

Entering its second weekend of RMAC play ever, the ASC men’s soccer team will face a pair of sturdy tests. On Friday the Grizzlies will host defending national champion Fort Lewis at Murphy Field beginning at 3 p.m., and will welcome Mesa State to Alamosa for a 1 p.m. match Sunday.
