Grizzly netminders among RMAC leaders

COLORADO SPRINGS – Click here to view for the sixth Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference men’s soccer release of the fall. Tuesday’s release includes Players of the Week, recent results, league standings, a schedule of upcoming games, news and notes from around the league as well as a look at regional and national polls.
Grizzly goalies put up some big members over the weekend, as freshmen Paul Pizza (Alamosa, Colo.) and Dillon Lee (Arvada, Colo.) combined to make school-record 18 saves in Sunday’s match against CSU-Pueblo. Pizza made 12 saves in the contest against the ThunderWolves and ended the weekend with 22 saves over two games.
Adams State ranks second in the RMAC with 95 saves. Individually, Pizza is ranked second in both saves (49) and savers per game (7.00), while Lee is third in both categories with 42 saves and 6.00 savers per game.
The RMAC has three teams ranked in the top-25 by the National Soccer Coaches’ Association (NSCAA) for the fifth straight week, led by top-ranked Colorado Mines, which occupies that spot for the second week in a row. Metro State moved up one spot from a week to seventh, and Regis now sits at No. 17, up two places from a week ago. The league also holds all six spots in the NSCAA Men’s Soccer Centrai Region Rankings, including Colorado Mines, Metro State, Regis, Fort Lewis, Mesa State and CSU-Pueblo in order.
This weekend will be the second straight that the Grizzlies face a nationally-ranked opponent, and unless one of the RMAC teams currently ranked drops out of the polls, will face a ranked opponent on each of the four remaining weekends of the season. The Grizzlies will open this weekend at home against UC-Colorado Springs (1-8-1, 0-5-1 RMAC) at 3 p.m. Friday at Murphy Field, and host No. 17 Regis (7-1-1, 3-1-1 RMAC) on Sunday at 1 p.m. Live Stats for both matches can be found here.
