Grizzlies set to return to action on Nov. 13 at Colorado Mines Tri-Meet
COLORADO SPRINGS – Click here to view the third Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference swimming release of the 2010-11 season. Wednesday’s release includes men’s and women’s swimmer and diver of the week selections, a schedule of upcoming meets, news and notes from around the league and a look at preseason league awards and rankings.
The Grizzlies were in action at the Mesa State hosted Intermountain Shootout in Grand Junction, Colo. last Friday and Saturday. On the men’s side, the Grizzlies competed with just four swimmers, but it didn’t stop them from continuing to establish new modern era school records as ASC bested four of the marks set at their season-opening Adams State Duals. Freshman Cody Robson (Athens, Texas) put up two new program records, touching the wall in a time of 30.27 seconds in the 50-yard breaststroke, and later in the 200 individual medley (IM) where he clocked a time of two minutes, 18.88 seconds.
Meanwhile, the Grizzly women’s team set a total of seven new program records in their trip to Grand Junction. Freshman Jennell Higgs (Socorro, N.M.) had a hand in four of the new ASC all-time best marks, most notably in the 400 IM where she broke her own week-old record by nearly 12 seconds, setting the bar at 5:00.80. Higgs was also a part of two relay records. In the 400 free relay, Adams State established a new mark of 3:57.50, and did the same in the 800 free relay in 8:39.50.
Next up for the Grizzlies will be a trip to Golden, Colo. for the Colorado Mines Tri-Meet on Saturday, Nov. 13, where both the men and women will face Colorado College and the Orediggers in a pair of dual meets. Then, from Dec. 4-5, ASC will compete at the Colorado College Classic against Mesa State and Colorado College, wrapping up their fall semester schedule.
