RMAC Swimming & Diving Release #13

Grizzlies kick-off Colorado College Classic at 4 p.m. Friday

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Click here to view the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference’s (RMAC) 13th swimming & diving release of the 2011-11 season. Wednesday’s release includes league swimmers of the week, recent performances and upcoming meets as well as a look back at preseason conference polls.

The Grizzlies, who have been out of competition since Dec. 4-5, 2010 when they were at the Mesa State Invitational in Grand Junction, Colo., will make their return to action this Friday weekend, Jan. 21-23, at the Colorado College Classic in Colorado Springs, which kicks off at 4 p.m. Friday.

Despite the layoff in competition, several Adams State performances from the 2010 portion of the schedule continue to rank among the league’s best.

Newcomer Kelly Erickson (Federal Way, Wash.) ranks 10th in the RMAC in the 100 yard butterfly, having posted a time of 1 minte, 2.07 seconds in the event on Dec. 5 at the Mesa State Invitational. That performance gave her the ASC modern era record in the event as well. Erickson is also the Grizzlies’ modern era record holder in the 400 yard individual medley, having swum a RMAC 14th-best time of 4:55.76, also at the Mesa State Invitational.

Freshman Jennell Higgs’ (Socorro, N.M.) time of 2:18.24 in the 200 yard butterfly, accomplished on Dec. 4 at the Mesa State Invitational, ranks 13th in the RMAC. Higgs is also in the top 20 in the conference 200 yard backstroke, owning the No. 16 time this season with at 2:19.83, and her 100 yard butterfly time of 1:03.64 is presently the 22nd fastest among RMAC swimmers.

For the Grizzly men, redshirt freshman Cody Robson (Athens, Texas) is the owner of the league’s 28th-ranked performance in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:31.51) and 31st-ranked 100 yard breaststroke time (1:07.90).

The Grizzlies will get a chance to face familiar league foes Mesa State and Colorado Mines as well as the host Tigers this weekend, at their final regular-season meet of the year before heading to Grand Junction once again for the RMAC championships, which will be hosted by the Mavericks on Feb. 10-12.
