Lutz tallies 25 as J.V. Grizzlies fall 73-60 at CCU
ASC to start 3-game home-stretch Friday
LAKEWOOD, Colo.— Brandon Lutz (Colorado Springs, Colo.) hit five three pointers and scored a game-high 25 points to lead the Adams State College junior varsity men’s basketball team’s effort against their Colorado Christian University Cougar counterparts, Sunday evening here in the CCU Event Center.
The Cougars won the game, 73-60.
Lutz was 4-for-5 on 3-pointers in the second half alone as the Grizzlies matched CCU point-for-point in the second half. The Grizzlies trailed 38-25 at the break and were down by as many as 23 with 14 minutes left before mounting a bit of a comeback.
The Grizzlies also received 11 points from Tyler Schumacher (Peetz, Colo.) and nine more from redshirt freshman Colby Joe Hunt (Alamosa, Colo.) but could not stop the more-balanced Cougars, who had three players in double figures, including Stephen Dennis, who tallied 14 points, thanks in large part to four treys. He and Austin Wenger also had seven rebounds apiece helping the Cougars to a 44-28 overall and 14-2 offensive rebound advantage.
Lutz also had three steals and a team-high six rebounds for the Grizzlies (1-7), who will face the Cougars again on Feb. 6 at the end of a 3-game home-stand. That stretch begins this Friday when the Grizzlies will take on Trinidad State Junior College at 8 p.m. in the second half of a women’s and men’s doubleheader that will begin with the women’s game at 6 p.m.
