TSJC wears down J.V. Grizzly men for 97-84 triumph
Lutz leads ASC with 27

ALAMOSA, Colo.— A deep and athletic Trinidad State Junior College men’s basketball team was too much for the 7-man Adams State College junior varsity squad as the Trojans shot 54.3 percent from the field en-route to a 97-84 win over the Grizzlies, Friday night in Plachy Hall.
Ryan Gesiakowski led the Trojans, now 11-10 on the year, with 24 points while three teammates joined him in double figures. The Trojans had 11 players who saw 15 or more minutes of playing time as coach Mike Folda regularly made whole-sales changes throughout the night.
Meanwhile, the Grizzlies’ Brandon Lutz (Colorado Springs, Colo.) led all scorers with 28 points, 21 of which came from behind the 3-point line.
The Grizzlies (0-8), who jumped out to a 16-4 lead behind some hot shooting from 3-point land, then gave up an 18-0 run to fall behind by six.
Trailing by a eight (47-39) at the break, the Grizzlies then allowed the Trojans the first four points of the second half before scoring 11 of the next 13 to pull within 53-50 on a Jose Uriartre (Antonito, Colo.) 3-pointer, one of 13 the Grizzlies had on the night.
However, the Trojans wore down the Grizzlies, who had two of their players foul out and pulled away for the win.
Grizzly redshirt freshman Colby Joe Hunt (Alamosa, Colo.), one of the two to foul out, finished the night with 18 points while Tyler Schumacher (Peetz, Colo.), who played the last 5:27 with four fouls, finished with 11 points and three steals.
Quincy Davis (Fountain, Colo.) also had a solid effort finishing with a game-high eight assists.
The J.V. Grizzlies have six more games on their schedule, including three at home and will host Air Force Prep next Saturday (Feb. 5) before facing the Colorado Christian University junior varsity squad on Super Bowl Sunday (Feb. 6).
