Davis, Rifilato garner Crossroads Classic tournament honors

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Adams State junior hitter Dominique Davis (Denver, Colo.) was honored as the MVP of the Holiday Inn Crossroads Classic, hosted by Colorado Mesa from Sept. 9-10, while sophomore setter Gabriella Rifilato (Bayfield, Colo.) was recognized as an all-tournament setter on Sept. 22 by the tournament organizers.
The Grizzlies were the only of the eight teams in action to go undefeated, posting a 4-0 record over two days play. The Grizzlies wins included 4-setters against Academy of Art (Calif.), Dixie State (Utah) and the University of Mary (N.D.), as well as 3-set win against Saint Anselm (N.H.).
Davis led all hitters at Crossroads with 55 kills in four matches, averaging 3.67 kills per set, and hit at .232 clip. She was also in on four blocks during the tournament, including a pair of solo stuffs.
Rifilato, an ASC newbie, averaged 10.40 assists per set over the weekend en route to 156 total assists. Her 146 assists were more than the Grizzlies’ opponents combined 141 assists, and she would also tally nine kills and six service aces.
The Grizzlies posted a combined 6-2 record at their season-opening tournaments this season, and currently possess a record of 9-4 overall and are 3-2 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) play. ASC will take to the road this weekend for a pair of pivotal RMAC West Division match-ups against division leader Colorado State-Pueblo on Friday, and against Western State on Saturday.
