ALAMOSA, Colo.— The Adams State College athletic department has a variety of promotions planned in conjunction with this weekend’s Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opening basketball games in Plachy Hall.

The Grizzly basketball teams will play Colorado State University-Pueblo during Friday’s Blackout Night before facing the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs Mountain Lions on Saturday during Whiteout Night festivities.  The women’s games will tip-off at 6 p.m. each night while the men’s contests will follow at 8 p.m.

On Friday, the Adams State College cheerleaders will hold their inaugural Grizzly Cheer for Toys campaign to benefit members at the Boys & Girls Club of the San Luis Valley.  All fans are asked to bring a new unwrapped toy to Friday’s games to help make the upcoming holiday season a little more enjoyable for the Boys & Girls club members.  For each toy brought to the game, fans will receive a ticket for a chance to win a series of door prizes, which will be given throughout the evening.  There is no limit to the number of tickets that each fan can receive in exchange for toys.

The first 50 ASC students who bring a toy will also receive a complimentary Blackout Night T-Shirt courtesy of the ASC President's Office.

The grand door prize is a 16” Stihl MS 180 Chain Saw valued at approximately $200.  The prize is being donated by J&J Rental Center, which is the corporate partner of Friday night’s men’s game.

Additionally, J&J Rental Center is also providing T-shirts that the Grizzly cheerleaders will throw out to the loudest fans and a pair of $50 gift certificates to be given to lucky fans who purchase a winning game program.

The collected toys will be presented to Boys & Girls Club officials at halftime of Friday night’s men’s game and will be presented to club members at a Christmas party on Dec. 15 along with 25 pairs of tennis shoes, donated by Colorado Sports, another Grizzly Club Corporate Partner, towards the toy drive.  The cheerleaders, who been regularly volunteering at the Boys & Girls Club in recent weeks, will also perform during the intermission of Friday’s men’s game and again on Saturday evening during the women’s contest.

On Saturday, the Grizzlies will host their annual Championship Night festivity recognizing the accomplishments of all of ASC’s championship teams during the 2011 calendar year.
The year saw both the Grizzly men’s and women’s track and field teams win RMAC Outdoor titles.  The Grizzly women also won their 10th straight indoor crown helping ASC to an impressive runner-up finish in the RMAC Wells Fargo Cup, an all-sports competition.

Earlier this fall, the Grizzly men’s cross country team won a NCAA Division II Central Regional title while the Grizzly volleyball team claimed a share of the RMAC West Division crown, their first since 2003.

Fans are encouraged to wear black clothing to Friday’s games and white on Saturday.

The Grizzly men’s basketball team is off to a perfect 3-0 start and has defeated their three opponents by an average of nearly 30 points.  They won 20 games last season and advanced to the NCAA Division II National Tournament.

The Grizzly women are coming off back-to-back 20-plus win seasons and NCAA Division II Tournament appearances and a trip to the “Sweet 16” last year.  This weekend’s contest will be the first home games for the2011-12 squad, which went 1-3 on an 8-day pre-Thanksgiving road trip to Oklahoma and Arizona.
