RMAC Swimming & Diving Week 9 Release
Next up for ASC: Dual with Colorado Mines at Plachy on Jan. 8

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Click here to view the ninth Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) swimming & diving release of the 2011-12 season. Included in Wednesday’s release are league swimmers and divers of the week, recent results, upcoming competitions, news & notes from around the league and a look at the polls.
The Grizzlies have been idle since taking part in the Colorado Mesa Invitational in Grand Junction on Nov. 19-20, as a Dec. 3 tri-meet with Colorado College and Colorado Mines was cancelled due to weather.
Adams State had a successful start with the 2011 portion of the schedule, as both squads have assaulted the program record books, while the women have won five dual meets and claimed a pair of fourth place finishes, at the Rocky Mountain and Colorado Mesa Invitationals.
Three of the Grizzly women’s teams performances this season rank among the top 10 in the RMAC. Sophomore Jennell Higgs (Socorro, N.M.) owns a season-best time of two minutes, 16.02 seconds in the 200 yard butterfly, which ranks ninth in the conference. Freshman April Cunningham (Leander, Texas) ranks ninth in the RMAC in both the 100 yard breaststroke and 200 yard breaststroke with times of 1:10.44 and 2:33.75, respectively.
Freshman Nick Mankus (Keller, Texas) posts the ASC men’s teams top RMAC ranking, as his time of 17:49.57 in the 1,650 yard freestyle ranks 10th in the league this season.
Now more than a month beyond their last competitive outing, the Grizzlies will return to action shortly, and will do so while making their lone home appearance of the season.
On Sunday, Jan. 8, both the Adams State men’s and women’s swimming teams will be in action in Plachy Hall, where the Grizzlies will take on RMAC foe Colorado Mines in a dual meet.
Following their dual with the Orediggers, the Grizzlies will have just one more meet before the conference championships. ASC will swim at the Colorado Mesa-hosted Bill & Peggy Foster Duals on Jan. 14, and then head to San Antonio, Texas for the RMAC Championships, which will be hosted by Incarnate Word (Texas) on Feb. 15-18. The Grizzlies will also stay in Texas for the Incarnated Word-hosted Last Chance Time Trials on Feb. 19.
