Spring volleyball starts Saturday
ASC to host Apr. 8 scrimmages

ALAMOSA, Colo.— Adams State College will host four other Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference West Division rivals in a series of volleyball scrimmages Saturday, Apr. 8, the highlight of the Grizzlies’ spring tournament schedule that begins this Saturday at Colorado Mines. The Grizzlies are also slated to take compete in the University of New Mexico’s spring tournament on Apr. 22 after taking the Easter weekend off.
The Grizzlies and coach Lindy Mortensen, who completed her first year at the helm of the Grizzly program last fall, are a little shorthanded as they enter the stretch. Because of a rash of injuries and the loss of six seniors off the 2005 squad, Mortensen said that she will enter this weekend with just seven players, including three of last year’s seniors.
The Grizzlies are slated to face three other RMAC foes in Colorado State-Pueblo, Colorado Mines and Western State this weekend in Golden. The scrimmages, which will be played in best-of-3 formats begin at 10 a.m. They will only last 75 minutes each.
In the home tournament, ASC will compete against UC-Colorado Springs at 10 a.m., Fort Lewis at 12 p.m., New Mexico Highlands at 1 p.m. and Western State at 2 p.m. Each scrimmage will last just one hour. Matches will be played in the main gym and the fieldhouse of Plachy Hall.
A schedule and list of opponents for the Apr. 22 tournament in Albuquerque, N.M. has not been announced.
